Tigers Take Two From Oberlin

Oberlin, OH – The Wittenberg softball swept the Oberlin College Yeowomen on Sunday afternoon from the road, taking game one in five innings with a 13-0 decision. The Tigers edged out the Yeowomen in game two of the day with a final score of 8-6. Wittenberg collected 25 hits on the afternoon. Elaina Adams, Elise Freeland, and Julia Burch each tallied multiple hits in the first game for the Red and White. Freeland kept swinging the hot bat in game two, adding two more hits to her tally, along with Clara Andersen, Alexis Christy, and Briana Busic adding a pair of hits of their own. Kira van Ravensberg picked up her fourth win of the season, tossing the complete-game shutout in game one for the Tigers. Van Ravensberg allowed just six hits and struck out two in five innings of work.

Game Breakdown

Wittenberg scored early and often in game one, putting up runs in the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth innings. Heading into the second inning with a 2-0 lead, Adams went big fly to center field for her first homer of the season, putting Wittenberg ahead 3-0. The Tigers exploded for five runs in the third inning, as Christy executed the sacrifice bunt. Adams came up with the big swing again, logging the two-RBI single. A triple to right by Freeland pushed the fourth Wittenberg run of the inning across before an Oberlin wild pitch allowed the Tigers to take the 8-0 advantage. Wittenberg kept the pedal down, adding one more run in the fourth and four more runs in the fifth, with RBI doubles coming from Brooke Dill and Nikki Hawkins.

Wittenberg kept the momentum going, putting up seven runs in the first inning of game two, Hanna Ecker got the rally started with a single through the left side, scoring Freeland. Back-to-back singles from Alex Gibson and Christy pushed the Tiger's second and third runs across. A two-RBI double by Busic extended the Wittenberg advantage out to 5-0. After Adams reached on the Oberlin error later in the inning, Freeland ripped a double into right-center scoring Wittenberg's seventh run of the inning. The Tigers fended off an Oberlin threat as the Yeowomen posted six runs between the first and fifth innings, cutting the Wittenberg lead to 7-4 after the second inning.
