Tiger Softball Wins Two One-Run Games Against Wooster; 2-1, 3-2

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—The Wittenberg Tigers softball program took two games from NCAC rival Wooster on Thursday, 2-1 and 3-2. Shannon Lance (Loveland, Ohio/Kings) and Katy Baumgartner (Fishers, Indiana/Cathedral) delivered decisive blows to the Fighting Scots, both in the forms of triples, giving the Tigers the lead in game one and two. Wittenberg now moves to 27-6-1 in 2016, with a stellar 11-3 record in NCAC play.

GAME ONE NOTES

  •  Wittenberg busted the game open, taking the lead in the bottom of the third inning as Lance tripled to deep right field, scoring Lauren Buelow (Hilliard, Ohio/Darby).
  • On the play, as Lance went coasting in to third base, a wild cutoff throw by Wooster ended up in the Tigers dugout, as Lance was awarded home, giving the Tigers a 2-1 lead.
  • Chelsea Zang (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) handled the rest for Wittenberg, dealing seven innings of four hit softball, while striking out six in the win.

GAME TWO NOTES

  • Coming off of her perfect game, Abby Haab (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) went the distance for the Tigers in game two, surrendering one earned run over seven innings, while allowing three hits and striking out six.
  • Much like game one, a decisive extra base hit gave the Tigers the lead and eventually the game.
  • In the bottom of the sixth inning, trailing 2-1, Baumgartner smoked an opposite field triple in the right-center gap that plated Lance and Loren Combs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin).
  • After gaining the lead at 3-2, Haab retired the Scots in order in the 7th to earn the victory.
