Tigers Open NCAC With Split At Ohio Wesleyan

DELAWARE, Ohio — A week that started with a record-setting offensive barrage in a pair on non-conference doubleheaders ended with a pair of pitcher's duels as the Wittenberg Tigers opened North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) action with a split at Ohio Wesleyan.

The Battling Bishops claimed the opener 4-0, but the Tigers rallied to claim a 3-1 decision in the nightcap. Wittenberg, which had scored 39 runs in a three-game winning streak against Heidelberg and Mount St. Joseph, now stands at 16-8 overall and 1-1 in the NCAC. Ohio Wesleyan is now 7-9 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

In Game 1, the Battling Bishops jumped on top with three runs in the bottom of the first inning and added an insurance score in the sixth. The Tigers were kept off the scoreboard despite nine baserunners in the game. Wittenberg left eight runners on base.

The Tigers left another seven runners on base in the second game, but sophomoreRachel Ross (Westerville, Ohio/South) continued to dominate opposing hitters. Her scoreless streak was snapped at 27 innings, but Ross still picked up her fourth straight victory after allowing eight hits and one walk while going the distance.

Senior Tori Amicon (Galloway, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) got things started offensively for Wittenberg with a second-inning home run. She was one of four players to finish with two hits in the game, joining senior Jessica Snyder (Northfield, Ill./New Trier), senior Fallon White (Fairborn, Ohio/Northmont) and senior Brooklyn Cox (Dayton, Ohio/Vandalia Butler), who finished a perfect 3-for-3.
