Tigers Endure Tough Day At Rebel Spring Games

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The Wittenberg University softball team absorbed two losses at the Rebel Spring Games on Tuesday, falling 8-0 in six innings to Webster and 9-2 to Geneva. The Tigers head into a day off on Wednesday with a 2-6 overall record.

Webster moved to 7-2 on the season following the early game, but not without some threats from the Tigers. In the top of the fourth, the Tigers put two runners on base via back-to-back hits from junior Tori Amicon (Galloway, Ohio/Hilliard Darby), who went 2-for-3 in the game, and freshman Kaitie Harrison (Springfield, Ohio/Kenton Ridge), but were unable to convert the runners.

Freshman pitcher Caitlin Gowins (Coshocton, Ohio/River View) took the loss but gave up only three earned runs and struck out two batters.

The Geneva lineup, packed with skilled small ball bunters and baserunners, handed freshman Rachel Ross (Westerville, Ohio/South) a loss despite six strikeouts.

Junior Brooklyn Cox (Dayton, Ohio/Vandalia Butler) and freshman Shelby Ross (Springfield, Ohio/Kenton Ridge) each picked up a hit and a run scored in the late game.

Following a free day on Wednesday, the Tigers square off against Wesley and fellow Buckeye State spring breakers Bluffton on Thursday, March 10, at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. respectively.
