Transylvania Takes Two From Tigers

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Wittenberg softball team traveled to Transylvania for a rescheduled doubleheader Thursday afternoon but came up on the wrong side of 10-0 and 5-0 scores in dropping to 6-12 on the season.

With North Coast Athletic Conference play scheduled to start next weekend with a Saturday-Sunday, April 10-11, series at Oberlin, the Tigers took the non-conference doubleheader as an impromptu opportunity to work on some contigencies, such as the gameplan when one of the team's key offensive playmakers is sidelined.

Without the offensive spark of senior outfielder Cameron Catalfu (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) and facing 15-5 Transylvania's tough pitching, Wittenberg managed four hits in game one, most coming off the bat of 3-for-3 sophomore shortstop Jessica Snyder (Northfield, Ill./New Trier), but just one in game two, also from Snyder.

Senior Amanda Delagrange (Akron, Ohio/Firestone) provided the fourth hit for the Tigers in game one. Sophomore Anna Kvartunas (Springfield, Va./Paul VI Catholic) took the loss from the circle in game one despite giving up just two earned runs, and senior Brooke Boswell (Hamilton, Ohio/Fairfield) absorbed the loss in game two in a complete-game, four-earned run, six-hit outing.

The Tigers must reset quickly with a trip to Cleveland on Friday, April 2, for a 2 p.m. matchup with Case Western Reserve University.
