Wittenberg Splits Pair On Day 4 Of Spring Break Trip

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - In a study of contrasts, the Wittenberg Tigers were blown out by nationally ranked Muskingum, 18-0 in five innings, and then came back a few hours later to defeat Eastern Mennonnite by a 4-1 score.

Muskingum, ranked fourth nationally, scored at least one run in each of its four at-bats as the game was shortened to five innings due to the run rule. That included an eight-spot in the second inning. Wittenberg mustered just three hits, two off the bat of freshman Rachael Hatcher, in response.

Against Eastern Mennonnite, however, the Tigers rallied around Hatcher's outstanding complete-game pitching effort. She allowed five hits and didn't walk a batter while striking out seven and yielding just one earned run.

Offensively, the Tigers scored once in the first inning and three more times in the third, giving Hatcher all the run support she would need. Junior Lucy Huelsman, freshman Erin Meredith, junior Stephanie Zorn and junior Erin Collinsworth all had two hits in the game. The big blows were provided by Collinsworth, who had a RBI hits in the first and third innings, and freshman Amanda Glacken, whose two-run double in the third opened the game up.
