    A pair of freshmen for the Tiger women once again topped the charts en route to All-Great Lakes Region performances. Freshman Mary Pfeifer (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) took 19th overall, a place that left her just on the outside of a NCAA National Championships individual qualification. Just two places back, freshman Darcy Dubuc (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) took 21st place to close out a sensational rookie year for the Tiger harriers. All-Regional honors are awarded to the top 35 finishers.

    OBERLIN, Ohio - The Tiger men's and women's cross country teams turned in a pair of outstanding finishes at the 2008 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) championship meet, hosted by Oberlin College. The highlight was undoubtedly the women's team, which placed fourth in the nine-team field, its highest finish since joining the conference in 1989.

    WILMINGTON, Ohio - In perhaps the surest sign of significant progress in years, the Wittenberg men's and women's cross country teams turned in a pair of outstanding finishes at the Wilmington Invitational. The Tiger women placed second in the 24-team field, powered by third- and fourth-place individual finishes, and the Tiger men wound up seventh in a 23-team field.

Meanwhile, the men without all of their top runners to an 11th-place finish in a 20-team field.

    SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The women's cross country team defended their home course, coming away victorious in their own Wittenberg Invitational. On the men's side, in their first 8,000 meter race of the season, the Tigers packed their scoring group to come across just behind meet-winner Cedarville to finish in 2nd place.
  • Wittenberg Cross Country Teams Host 2008 Invitational Meet

    The Wittenberg University men's and women's cross country teams continue the 2008 season with the annual Wittenberg Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Springfield Masonic Home. Five schools - Cedarville University, Cuyahoga Community College, Muskingum College and Urbana University - are scheduled to join the host Tigers in the competition, which starts with the women's five-kilometer race at 10:30 a.m. and concludes the with men's eight-kilometer race at 11:15 a.m.

    CLEVELAND, Ohio — For the sixth consecutive year, the Allegheny men were predicted to claim the NCAC championship after annual preseason balloting by North Coast Athletic Conference cross country coaches. The Gator women were picked to join their counterparts atop the podium as preseason favorites. Wittenberg's men were picked to finish eighth and the women fifth.

    With a strong core returning from Wittenberg men's and women's cross country teams that finished eighth and seventh in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC), respectively, in 2007, third-year Head Coach Craig Penney hopes to continue the Tigers' climb up the league standings in 2008. If there is such a thing as strength in numbers in college cross country, the 2008 Wittenberg Tigers figure to be a force to be reckoned with.
