Melchiorre Collects MCVL Offensive Player of the Week Honors

MCVL, U.S.A. -- The Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League today announced its Week 7 award-winners. Wittenberg's Dominic Melchiorre was chosen Offensive Player of the Week and Adrian's Tedrick Gula was the pick for Defensive Player of the Week.

Offensive Player of the Week

Dominic Melchiorre, Wittenberg (Jr., OH) Hilliard, Ohio

  • Melchiorre led the Tigers' offense with 40 kills and a .304 hitting percentage in two matches.
  • He established a new school record for kills in a four-set match with 22 (.486 hitting percentage) v. Baldwin Wallace.
  • Melchiorre added 17 digs and five blocks in the two matches.
  • The junior is fourth in the league with 194 kills and second with 136 digs.
  • Attended Hilliard Darby High School.

Defensive Player of the Week

Tedrick Gula, Adrian (Sr., OH) San Gabriel, Calif.

  • Gula had 29 digs and 6 blocks in two matches for the Bulldogs.
  • Was also very efficient offensively with 27 kills, a .260 hitting percentage, and 2 service aces.
  • Gula stands 12th in the league with 137 total kills.
  • Tedrick is one-half of the Gula brothers' tandem at Adrian with Branden also a star for the team.
  • Attended Gabrielino High School.

  • Nick Irelan, Baldwin Wallace > 40 kills, .250 hitting percentage, 3 service aces, 27 digs, 3 blocks in three matches.
  • Nate Paasch, Fontbonne > 20 kills, .364 hitting percentage, 12 digs, 2 blocks in two matches.
  • Jason Hascher, Mount St. Joseph > 34 kills, .263 hitting percentage, 2 service aces, 19 digs, 6 blocks in two matches.
  • Luke Trzeciak, Mount Union > 24 kills, .288 hitting percentage, 11 digs, 4 blocks in two matches.

  • Braden Woolsey, Fontbonne > 10 blocks, 5 digs, 2 service aces, 13 kills in two matches.
  • Josh Kabel, Mount St. Joseph > 26 digs, 4 kills in two matches.
  • Luis Rivera, Wabash > 12 digs in two matches.
  • Kurt Klamfoth, Wittenberg > 7 digs, 13 blocks in two matches.

 

 Notes

  • MCVL plays takes another break this week; the next set of league matches happens March 18-20.
  • Mount Union and Fontbonne are now two games up in the loss column; the Raiders are 4-0 while the Griffins are 2-0.
  • Among the non-league highlights this week is Baldwin Wallace's trip to the West Coast for matches at UC-Santa Cruz and Cal-Lutheran.
  • Fontbonne is not shying away from top competition with weekend matches at Dominican (No. 3 nationally), North Central (No. 4), and Carthage (No. 6)
