Tigers With Successful Trip to Latrobe, PA

Latrobe, PA -- The Wittenberg Men's Volleyball Team traveled to Pennsylvania to take on the St. Vincent Bearcats, winning both matches to give Wittenberg a winning record for the first time since January, 2020. The Tigers swept in the first match going 25-11, 25-17, 25-13. Eight of the nine total players had at least one kill attempt for a total of 72 with eight successful coming from junior Chris Goertz who also had six digs. On the defensive, senior Russ Burke collected 13 digs adding to the total of 42 while adding five kills to the 35 successful. Senior Dominic Melchiorre and freshman Jack Boone had seven kills each, Melchiorre with eight digs. Holding down the middle was graduate Aaron Giorgi with 29 of the total 30 assists. The Tigers came out with a kill percentage of .333 with six players having four kills or more.

Heading into the second match, the Red and White mimicked their last match, once again sweeping the Bearcats (25-19, 25-13, 25-14). Wittenberg fed off their adrenaline from the previous match, with 30 of their 64 total kill attempts coming just from the first set. Leading the front was Melchiorre with nine kills, Burke not far behind with seven successful knocks and Goertz with six. Seven players impacted the defense tallying 28 digs, six coming from freshman libero Ethan Archer. Cementing his spot in the middle, Giorgi lead the assists with 21 of the 24, two from freshman Aaron Miller. The Tigers finished the match with a kill percentage of .266 with 28 successful marks.

The Tigers head to Hiram to take on the Terriers Sunday, January, 23 at 1 p.m, no spectators allowed.
