Tigers Open Their Season At Home

Springfield, OH -- Under the direction of new head coach Nathan Matthews, 2019 graduate of Wittenberg, the Tigers opened their season with a competitive match against the Indiana Tech Warriors. The Tigers fell in three sets, 16-25, 16-25, and 13-25. The Red and White totaled 23 kills with 10 coming from senior Russ Burke who brought in 21 attempts. With this being the teams' first match of the season, growing pains are inevitable. Where Wittenberg struggled on completion, they made up in attempts. Graduate transfer Aaron Giorgi had 15 total assists with 52 attempts adding to the total of 75. The Tigers attempted 77 kills, junior Dominic Melchiorre with a successful seven, four coming from the final set.

On the receiving side, the Tigers collected 19 digs, five from Giorgi and four from freshman Aaron Miller. They also tallied in four blocks on the night. Going into full swing of competition, the Tigers look to come back from this loss as they head to Wisconsin next week.

The Tigers' next match will be against Wisconsin Luthern in Plymouth, Wisconsin on Thursday, January, 13 at 11:00 am.
