Tigers Drop Home Opener

Springfield, OH- Wittenberg was back on the court for their first match in the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League against the Little Giants of Wabash. The Red and White faced challenging back-to-back matches that both went to five sets.

The Tigers were able to take the lead early in their first match of the day, winning the first set 25-21 and came back in the third set with a 25-17 score. Senior outside hitter, Russ Burke led the Tigers in kills with 14 while Cameron Menini led with 18 digs. Wittenberg was unable to pick up momentum in the fifth set and fell with a 3-2 score in their first match of the day.

In their second match of the day, Wittenberg dropped the first two sets but were able to hold onto the third and fourth sets to slow the Little Giants. Freshman, Chris Goertz stepped up for the Tigers, putting down 18 kills, followed by Dominic Melchiorre with 13. Cameron Menini kept the lead in digs for Wittenberg, adding 22 digs to his total of 40. The Tigers weren't able to come back in the fifth set for a win and dropped their second match 3-2.

Wittenberg will be back on their home court February 13th for a double header against Baldwin Wallace at 1:00PM and 3:30PM.
