Men's Volleyball Lands Six on MCVL All-Academic Team

NAPERVILLE, IL - A total of 92 student-athletes were named to the 2016 Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) All-Academic Team on Wednesday.

To be named a member of the MCVL All-Academic Team, recipients must carry a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 for the academic year and must have earned a varsity letter.

The Tigers inaugural season was capped off with six MCVL All-Academic selections, as the team finished 14-11 in 2016 varsity play.

Wittenberg

  • Troy Boucher: Hailing from Delaware, Ohio, Boucher appeared in 13 matches for the Tigers, recording 11 assists and 86 digs.
  • Nathan Matthews: The Gahanna, Ohio native played in 22 matches for the Tigers, totaling 20 assists and 123 digs.  
  • Carter Schmidt: An outside-hitter from Hilliard, Ohio, Schmidt played in 20 games for the Tigers, totaling 57 kills, 62 digs and nine blocks.
  • Joel Sotos: Named the MCVL Offensive Player of the Week on January 25, the Dublin, Ohio native totaled 133 kills, 151 digs and 23 blocks in 21 matches in 2016.
  • Teddy Hesterman: A sophomore from Fort Wayne, Indiana, Hesterman saw action in 20 matches in 2016, recording 24 digs on the year.
  • Matt Briskey: The lone senior of Wittenberg's 2016 inaugural season, the Dublin, Ohio product graduated this past May from Wittenberg with a degree in business, after totaling 83 kills, and 25 blocks on the court.
