SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—The Wittenberg Tigers dropped their final home game of the season to in-state rival Mt. St. Joseph's on Thursday night, 3-0. The first-year team held their own for the entire match, but the Tigers could not get over the hump against the Lions. Dylan Kolovitz (Chicago, Illinois/St. Patrick) continued his consistent season on the attack for the Tigers, slamming home ten kills in the loss. The loss puts the Tigers at a 14-9 record overall, and a 4-7 mark in MCVL play.
MATCH BREAKDOWN
- Wittenberg earned the first point of the match in set one, but did not lead for the remainder of the set, dropping the opening frame 25-22.
- In set two, the Tigers found themselves down 20-13 after an Ashton Sellers (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central) kill, but the freshman's efforts were not enough as set two was lost 25-14.
- The Tigers were able to capitalize early on multiple Lion miscues in set three by taking a 16-13 lead but again, the Lions proved to be too much winning the set and the match 25-23 and 3-0.
KEY STATS
- MSJ produced a kill percentage of .225 in the match, while the Tigers garnished a .097 clip.
- Joel Sotos (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) was all over the court for the home-team Thursday night, collecting 14 digs, two kills, and two aces.
- From the service line, Wittenberg was able to produce five aces as a team in the loss.
UP NEXT
- The Tigers head north to Wisconsin to wrap-up their inaugural 2016 season with an 8:00PM match against Milwaukee School of Engineering on April 1, followed by the season-finale at Carthage College at 3:00PM on April 2.
