Tigers Cap New York Swing With Sweep Of Yeshiva, Sarah Lawrence

NEW YORK, NY - The Wittenberg Tigers have taken a bite out of the Big Apple. Five matches in three days across the Empire State resulted in a 4-1 record, capped by matching 3-0 sweeps of Yeshiva and Sarah Lawrence in New York City.

Wittenberg's overall record stands at 12-5, heading into the second half of a busy Spring Break week. The Tigers next head to Cincinnati for a match against Stevenson at Mount St. Joseph on Thursday before heading to North Central on Friday and Loras on Saturday for back-to-back Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) matches.

The wins over Yeshiva and Sarah Lawrence, both played at Yeshiva, wrapped up the non-conference portion of Wittenberg's inaugural schedule. The Tigers finished 10-1 outside of the MCVL.

The night started with a 3-0 win over the host team by set scores of 25-11, 25-15, 25-15. Freshman Max Baker (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) led the offense with 12 kills, while freshman Alex Brenner (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) dished out 25 assists. The defense included a team-high seven digs from freshman Joseph Belair (Akron, Ohio/Hoban) and a pair of solo blocks from freshman Isaiah Brock (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville).

Winless Sarah Lawrence succombed to Wittenberg by set scores of 25-5, 25-16 and 25-7. The Tigers racked up 18 service aces in the match, led by Belair with eight.

Baker and freshman Ashton Sellers (Westerville, Ohio/Central) led the way offensively with seven kills apiece, followed by Atkinson with six. Freshman Martis Roze (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) topped the defense with eight digs, while Brenner finished with 18 assists and five digs.
