Tigers Take Fourth at NCAC Championships

Delaware, OH- The Tigers headed to Delaware, OH for the NCAC Championships, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan. In their last meet, Wittenberg had eleven Tigers claim top spots in their respective events and their 4x100m relay team had another first-place finish. The Tigers had two broken record from Deven Ramsey and headed into the meet with experience that would land them a fourth-place overall finish. Wittenberg ended the day with four personal records being set (javelin, 3k steeple, 400m, 100m), a season best time in the 4x100m, and crowned a champion in the 800-meter race.

Five Tigers claimed a spot on the podium, finishing in the top three in their event. Starting off Wittenberg's success was Matthew Drovdlic in the 100-meter race with a third-place finish and time of 11 seconds for a personal record. Following in the 400-meter race was a second-place finish and another PR for the Tigers from Ezekiel Bennett with a time of 49.49.

Finding himself in a familiar place was Deven Ramsey with a first-place finish in the 800-meter and time of 1:54.53, only 1.08 seconds off from his previous record of 1:53.45. Ryan Zimmerman was the next Tiger to claim a top spot with a second-place finish in the 3000m steeple race and a PR of 9:49.34.

The men's 4x100m team composed of Drovdlic, Caden Zellner, Austyn Albanese, and Matt Roger took home a second-place finish with a finish of 43.08 to give Wittenberg eight of their 99 points. The 4x400m team picked up a season best to be named champions. Running the event was Bennett, Albanese, Ian McCandlish, and Ramsey with a time of 3:19.68. In field events, Wittenberg took home a second-place finish from Aaron Rutherford in the javelin throw with a PR and distance of 45.88m.

The Tigers placed fourth out of eight with a total of 99 points and have nine individuals receive All-NCAC honors. Rutherford, Drovdlic, Bennett, Ramsey, and Zimmerman all received individual honors for their events. Drovdlic, Zellner, Albanese, and Rogers were named All-NCAC in the 4x100m race and Bennett, Albanese, McCandlish, and Ramsey received the honor for the 4x400m.
