Men Finish Third, While Women Finish Sixth at NCAC Track and Field Championships

GRANVILLE, Ohio—Wittenberg track and field had four first place finishes over the weekend in the NCAC championships, as the men's team finished third, while the women's team took home sixth. Laike Wallace (Washington Court House, Ohio/Washington), Laike Wallace (Columbus, Ohio/DeSales), and Brea Medlock (Galena, Ohio/Big Walnut) all took home individual first place finishes for the Tigers. The 4x400 meter-relay team of Alaina Longshore (Columbus, Ohio/Franklin Heights), Jordan Crow (North Las Vegas/Nevada), Samantha Mitchell (Solon, Ohio/Solon) and Medlock also took home a first place finish for the Tigers.

 

MEN TOP 6'S

  • Wallace finished ahead of the pack, taking home first place in the 400 meter-hurdles at 53.17 seconds, while the seniors prelims time of 52.84 ranks him fourth nationally.  
  • Melsop earned his first place finish in the long-jump, with a finals distance of 6.84 meters.
  • The 4x100 meter-relay team of Josh Graham (Beacon, New York/Pougheepsie), Melsop, Justin Fisher (Fort Wayne, Indiana/Carroll) and Matt Entsminger (Bellefontaine, Ohio/Bellefontaine) raced their way to a second place finish at 43.02 seconds.
  • The 4x400 meter-realy team of Cody Shutt (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson), Ryan Hale (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville), Jalen Fultz (Springfield, Ohio/Springfield) and Wallace earned second place with a finals time of 3:19.96.
  • In the triple jump, Fisher finished third in the finals with a distance of 13.98 meters.
  • In the discus, Eric Cospey (Trotwood, Ohio/Madison) finished third, after carrying a distance of 44.11 meters.
  • Shutt continued his impressive day in the 400 meter-dash, recording a fourth place finish in the finals with a time of 50.05 seconds.
  • Wallace also continued to shine bright, this time in the 110 meter-hurdles with a fourth place finish at 15.24 seconds.
  • In the javelin, Fisher also continued his excellent championships, finishing fourth with a finals distance of 50.31 meters.
  • Also showing well in the triple jump, Melsop cleared 12.97 meters, which was good enough for a fourth place finish in the finals.
  • Earning a fifth place finish in the 200 meter-dash, Fultz checked in at 22.72 seconds in the finals.
  • Also earning a fifth place finish was Tay Morton (Dayton, Ohio/Belmont) who clearing 1.86 meters in the high jump.
  • Curtis Quimby (Plain City, Ohio/Fairbanks) finished fifth in the discus finals after carrying a distance of 40.92 meters.
  • Rounding out the Tigers day was senior Dan Mason (Springfield, Ohio/Greenon) who came in sixth in the discus at 40.24 meters.

 

WOMEN'S TOP 6'S

  • Medlock's 400 meter-dash time of 55.97 seconds not only earned the senior a fist place finish in the finals of the championships, but also broke the school record, and the NCAC record. Medlock's finish ranks her 19th nationally after the championships. 
  • Longshore, Crow, Mitchell, and Medlock's first place finish in the 4x400 meter-relay came with a finals time of 3:55.68.
  • Medlock continued to impress on the day, this time in the 200 meter-dash, as the senior finished second with a finals time of 24.86 seconds, setting another Wittenberg school record. Medlock is now ranked 20th nationally after her second place finish.
  • The 4x100 meter-relay team of Sara Richards (Columbus, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln), Mitchell, Medlock and Longshore finished second with a finals time of 48.40 seconds, also breaking a Wittenberg school record. 
  • Longshore continued her impressive championships with a third place finish in the 400 meter-dash at 57.89 seconds.
  • In the triple jump, Becah Delp (York, Pennesylavania/ Eastern York) also took home a third place finish, clearing 11.11 meters in the finals.
  • Crow also added a pair of fifth place finishes to her championship weekend, one in the 100 meter-hurdles at 15.12 seconds, and another in the 400 meter-hurdles at 1:05min.
  • Wrapping up things for the Tigers was Delp, who also took home a pair of fifth place finishes, one in the high jump at 1.66 meters, and another in the long jump at 5.25 meters.
