Tigers Take Two At Denison Lid-Lifter

GRANVILLE, Ohio — The Wittenberg track & field teams each took second at the Denison Lid-Lifter on Saturday to continue an early run of strong performances in the indoor season. The Tigers brought home eight first-place finishes split evenly between the men and women.

The strength of the meet for the men was two relay wins, first in the 4x200 where sophomore Victor Banjo (Sugarland, Texas/Stephen F. Austin), junior Patrick Tomko (North Olmsted, Ohio/North Olmsted), junior Philip Tomko (North Olmsted, Ohio/North Olmsted) and sophomore Chris Frierson (Cedar Hill, Texas/DeSoto) won with a time of 1:36.43.

Frierson repeated by leading the 4x400 crew to a win on a time of 3:36.44, teaming with freshman Charles Watson (Star, Idaho/Eagle), senior Ryan Hagen (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) and freshman Justin Yates (Dayton, Ohio/Bellbrook).

Banjo added two individual wins to round the men's top finishes, scoring victories in the 60- and 200-meter dashes on times of 7.10 seconds and 23.86 seconds, respectively.

Headlining the women's meet for Wittenberg was freshman Leslie Goshia (Bryan, Ohio/Bryan), who won the 400-meter dash at 1:04.24 and the long jump at 16-0.25 (4.88 meters).

Sophomore Maggie McIlvain (East Liverpool, Ohio/East Liverpool) won the 3000-meter run with a time of 11:14.92, and for the third time in three tries as a collegiate runner, freshman Shelby Kaho (Sugar Grove, Ohio/Berne Union) captured first place in the 60-meter hurdles, turning in a time of 9.62 seconds.

The Tigers next suit up to run at the Fighting Scot Invitational, hosted by the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio, on Saturday, Feb. 4.
