Tigers Make Trip North To NCAC Relays At Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio — The Wittenberg men's and women's indoor track and field teams made a trip north to Oberlin for the North Coast Athletic Conference Relays worth the while with some solid finishes, and team finishes of fourth for the men and sixth for the women.

The men were paced by a second place finish in the pole vault relay on the strength of a 12-5.5 vault from juniorJusten Cox (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson), who finished tied for third individually.

The 4x800 relay team of sophomore Tim Huesing (Mason, Ohio/Mason), sophomore Aaron Long (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne), freshman Wade Westbrook (Columbus, Ohio/Whetstone) and sophomore Adam Markins (Chillicothe, Ohio/Union Scioto) brought home third-place honors with a time of 8:29.16. The 5000-meter run duo of sophomore Trevor Grandy (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman)and senior Kevin Frick (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview)matched with third place as Grandy shaved nearly a minute off his seed time to finish in seventh at 15:43.71, and Frick was right behind in eighth.

The men also received fourth-place finishes from the distance medley team of Markins, freshman Chris Frierson (Cedar Hill, Texas/DeSoto), junior Ryan Hagen (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) and junior Jarrett Cowgill (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington), and the 4x400 team composed of Cowgill, Frierson, Hagen and senior Jumar Guy (Fort Wayne, Ind./Southside).

On the women's side, the Tigers were headlined by a first place team finish in the pole vault relay, thanks to the 9-6.25 vaults of sophomores Kaleigh Bible (Bellefontaine, Ohio/Bellefontaine) and Paige Lloyd (Medina, Ohio/Cloverleaf), which tied them for second place individually.

The Tigers also achieved several second place finishes, led off by the 4x200 relay team of freshman Alea Taylor (Springfield, Ohio/Springfield), sophomoreShawnquaya Johnson (Uhrichsville, Ohio/Claymont), junior Kari Domiano (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) and junior Jordan Stafford (Springfield, Ohio/Greenon) on a time of 1:50.42.

The 4x400 relay team had similar success, matching in second place thanks to strong contributions from Johnson, Domiano, Stafford and junior Darcy Dubuc (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven). Junior Mary Pfeifer (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman)finished second in the 5000-meter run individually, leading the Tigers a third-place team finish, while Taylor turned in a long jump of 14-3.25, good for fifth place individually, to help earn a third-place team finish in the event.

The Tigers are next at the Tiger Invitational at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., on Saturday, Feb. 5.
