Tigers Take Multiple Individual Titles In Home Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers turned in a strong showing on their home courts in the five-team 2013 Wittenberg Invitational.

Freshman Juan Mena (Quito, Ecuador/Colego Amrcano-Quito) kicked things off with a first-place finish in the top flight of the singles competition with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Luke Buchanan of Capital. Also of note, junior Alexey Topolyanskiy (Moscow, Russia/School 712) took the top spot in the Red Flight's backdraw.

In the second flight, labeled Blue, Wittenberg was again in the top position as junior Sasha Topolyanskiy (Moscow, Russia/School 712) won the championship match against junior Ian Streicker (South Lebanon, Ohio/Loveland).

In the Green Flight, senior Tyler Strong (Louisville, Ky./duPont Manual) was the runner-up, as was sophomore Tom Pinhas (Miami, Fla./U.E. El Angel) in the Orange Flight. Also in the Orange Flight, freshman Akbar Tiwana (Lahore, Pakistan/Aitchison) was the backdraw winner, while freshman Sean Munson (Chicago, Ill./Roycemore) took the top spot in the White Flight backdraw.

In doubles, the Topolyanskiy brothers defeated Streicker and Mena in the A Flight championship match.
