First Outing Is A Winning One For Tiger Men's Tennis

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers kicked off a promising 2013-14 season with a thorough 8-1 victory over neighboring NCAA Division II scholarship program Cedarville.

The win kicked off a busy fall season, which continues with a home tournament, a tournament at Wright State and the ITA Central Regional Tournament over the next three weekends.

The match opened with two wins in three doubles matches as the brothers tandem of Alexey Topolyanskiy (Moscow, Russia/School 712) and Sasha Topolyanskiy (Moscow, Russia/School 712) was a winner at No. 2 and the pairing of freshman Juan Mena (Quito, Ecuador) and junior Ian Streicker (South Lebanon, Ohio/Loveland) at No. 3.

What followed next was a singles sweep for the Tigers. Alexey Topolyanskiy led off with a win at No. 1 singles, followed by Mena at No. 2 and Sasha Topolyanskiy at No. 3. Rounding things out, senior Sam Wilke (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) won at No. 4, senior Tyler Strong (Louisville, Ky./duPont Manual) topped his foe at No. 5 and sophomore Mitchell Patterson (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) put the exclamation point on the victory with a win at No. 6.
