Tigers Sweep Transylvania, IU-East

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg men's tennis team played of the role of rude houseguest to Transylvania and Indiana University-East, easily defeating both visitors by matching 9-0 scores. 

The wins moved Wittenberg's overall record to 11-4 on the 2011-12 season.

Up first was Transylvania, one of the top programs in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. After dropping just three games en route to a three-match doubles sweep, the Tigers kept the pressure on to win all six singles matches. The only Wittenberg player who was pushed in the match was freshman Ian Streicker (South Lebanon, Ohio/Loveland) at No. 1 singles as he earned the win in a third-set tiebreaker.

Streicker went on to collect a 6-0, 6-0 win over his IU-East opponent. He and freshman Sasha Topolyanskiy (Moscow, Russia) both went a perfect 4-0 on the day, with two singles wins and two doubles victories, as Head Coach Justin Stuckey substituted liberally against the Red Wolves in the day's second match.

Freshmen Alexey Topolyanskiy (Moscow, Russia) won a pair of singles matches and in doubles against Transylvania. Junior Sergio Fishkin (Minsk, Belarus) won a doubles match in each contest, in addition to the No. 5 singles court against Transylvania. Sophomore Sam Wilke (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) also won two doubles matches and the No. 4 singles position against the Pioneers.
