Tigers Even NCAC West Record With Win At Ohio Wesleyan

DELAWARE, Ohio — The Wittenberg men's tennis team continued to build momentum, winning a fourth straight match and second in a row against North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) West Division compeition with a 7-2 victory over Ohio Wesleyan.

The win moved the Tigers to 15-6 overall and 2-2 in the NCAC West, heading into an eight-day break before Senior Recognition Day opposite Wooster on April 19. Ohio Wesleyan is now 5-9 on the 2011-12 season.

The Tigers opened well, completing a three-match doubles sweep to build a nearly insurmountable lead. The key was the No. 1 doubles position, where junior Sergio Fishkin (Minsk, Belarus) and freshman Sasha Topolyanskiy (Moscow, Russia)teamed up to pull out the win in a tiebreaker.

Fishkin and Topolyanskiy added singles wins at the No. 5 and No. 3 positions, respectively. Freshman Alexey Topolyanskiy (Moscow, Russia) added a win at No. 2 singles, while sophomore Sam Wilke (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) rounded things out with a win at No. 4 singles. Alexey and Wilke paired together for the win at No. 3 doubles, while freshman Ian Streicker (South Lebanon, Ohio/Loveland)and sophomore Tyler Strong (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) were the tandem at No. 2 doubles.
