Tigers Celebrate Senior Day With Win Over Wooster

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg men's tennis team celebrated Senior Recognition Day with a 7-2 victory over North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) rival Wooster, in the process putting the finishing touches on a perfect 8-0 home record in the 2011-12 season.

Wittenberg, which recognized its lone senior, Shaun Byrnes (Westlake, Ohio/St. Edward), before the match, improved to 16-6 heading into the regular season finale at Walsh on Saturday, April 21. Wooster, which competes in the NCAC East Division, dropped to 6-11 on the season.

The Tigers swept the doubles competition before taking four of six singles matches to secure the victory.

Freshman Ian Streicker (South Lebanon, Ohio/Loveland) was a double-winner at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles with sophomore Tyler Strong (Louisville, Ky./duPont Manual). Freshman Alexey Topolyanskiy (Moscow, Russia) also was perfect on the day, winning at No. 2 singles and at No. 3 doubles with sophomoreSam Wilke (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin).

Rounding things out, freshman Sasha Topolyanskiy (Moscow, Russia) won at No. 3 singles and at No. 1 doubles with junior Sergio Fishkin (Minsk, Belarus). Fishking capped his day with a victory at No. 5 singles.
