Tigers Beat Oberlin To Cap Season With Fifth-Place Finish In NCAC Tournament

OBERLIN, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers put the finishing touches on the 2010-11 season with a strong performance against the host Oberlin Yeomen, winning 5-2 to earn fifth place in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Tournament.

The win closed out the Tigers' fine season with a 14-7 overall record. Oberlin closed out in sixth place in the NCAC Tournament and 7-17 overall.

The Tigers started strong, winning two of three doubles matches, including a hard-fought 9-7 decision at the No. 3 position by freshmen Tyler Strong (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) and Jonathon Mueller (Bexley, Ohio/Hartley). Sophomore Sergio Fishkin (Minsk, Belarus) and freshman Sam Wilke (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) were 8-6 winners at No. 2.

Wittenberg then took care of business in singles, winning three of the four matches that reached a conclusion. Strong was a winner at No. 3, Wilke won at No. 4 and senior Rob Lehner (Westerville, Ohio/DeSales) picked up a victory at No. 5.
