Tigers Sweep Past NCAC Rival Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers put the finishing touches on the 2010-11 regular season with a strong performance against North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) rival Wooster in a 9-0 road victory.

The win moved the Tigers to 12-6 overall. At 1-2 in the NCAC West Division, Wittenberg will enter next week's conference tournament at Oberlin with a first-round match against the No. 2 team from the East Division. Wooster is now 4-13 overall.

A doubles sweep, in which the Tigers lost just four games in three matches, set the tone. In the singles competition, Wittenberg dominated four of the matches en route to the six-match win.

All six Tigers in the line-up were winners at both singles and doubles in the match, starting with senior Bobby Fisher (Gahanna, Ohio/Lincoln) at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles with senior Rob Lehner (Westerville, Ohio/DeSales), who won his singles match at No. 5. Sophomore Sergio Fishkin (Minsk, Belarus) added wins at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles with freshman Sam Wilke (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin), who was a singles winner at No. 4.

Rounding things out, freshmen Tyler Strong (Louisville, Ky./duPont Manual) and Jonathon Mueller (Bexley, Ohio/Hartley) were winners at No. 3 doubles. Strong added a win at No. 3 singles, while Mueller claimed victory at No. 6.
