Tigers Dominate Capital, 8-1

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers got back on the winning track with an 8-1 victory over visiting Capital University.

The win moved the Tigers to 10-6 overall on the season and provided much-needed momentum heading into their key North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) West Division showdown against Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday, April 13.

Wittenberg had lost four straight matches since returning from an undefeated Spring Break trip. The key was a strong doubles performance, a three-match sweep highlighted by a narrow 9-7 win at the No. 1 position for the tandem of senior Rob Lehner (Westerville, Ohio/DeSales) and freshman Joseph Marra (Great Falls, Mont./Great Falls).

Lehner added a singles win at the No. 4 position, while Marra added a singles at No. 6. Freshman Tyler Strong (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) was a double-winner at No. 2 singles — in three sets — and No. 2 doubles, as was freshman Jonathon Mueller (Bexley, Ohio/Hartley) at No. 5 singles and No. 3 doubles.
