HILTON HEAD, SC — The Wittenberg Tigers rebounded from a pair of losses to open their 2010 Spring Break trip to defeat Muskingum University 8-1.
The win moved the Tigers back above .500 at 4-3 on the 2009-10 season. Wittenberg has a day off Thursday before wrapping up the stay in Hilton Head with a pair of matches on Friday.
Against Muskingum, the Tigers got off to a solid start, winning 2-of-3 doubles matches — both by 8-0 scores. That set the stage for a singles sweep as the Tigers lost just one set in the six matches.
Freshman Sergio Fishkin (Minsk, Belarus), sophomore Stephane Antwi (Rosedale, NY/McClancy Memorial) and junior Bobby Fisher (Gahanna, Ohio/Lincoln) were all double-winners in the match. Also of note, the freshman doubles team of Josh Fridley (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Pickerington Central) andNick Ludwig (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) were 8-2 winners over Muskingum's Ryan and Derek Reichley in an exhibition match.
