Tigers Open Spring Season With NCAC West Win Over Earlham

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers opened the second half of the 2009-10 season - better known as the spring season, despite the persistent snowfall throughout the state of Ohio - with a 6-3 victory over visiting Earlham College.

The North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) West Division match was played at Springfield Racquet Club. The Tigers improved to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the NCAC West with the win, heading into a busy Spring Break in which the team will play six matches in a span of six days - two in North Carolina and four in Hilton Head, SC.

The Tigers started the match off well, winning two of the three doubles matches. That was followed by four of six in the singles competition, although Earlham took the top spots in straight sets.

Senior Craig Lods (Chillicothe, Ohio/Chillicothe) enjoyed a perfect day, teaming with sophomore Stephane Antwi (Rosedale, NY/McClancy Memorial) to win at No. 2 doubles before claiming a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles. Antwi was also a perfect 2-for-2, as he captured a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.
