SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers men's tennis team had a tough battle against the visiting Cavaliers of Walsh University, losing 6-3.

After opening with just one win in three doubles matches against the NAIA scholarship program from North Canton, Ohio, the Tigers were unable to close the gap, despite a pair of impressive singles victories, including a win by seniorBrad Seymour (Chillicothe, Ohio/Chillicothe) at No. 1 singles.

The doubles win was provided by the team of sophomore Andy Lamb (Bluffton, Ohio/ Bluffton) and freshman Derek de Rie (Breukeler, The Netherlands/RSG Broklede) by a close score of 9-7. De Rie also found a victory in the singles play, defeating his opponent, 6-4, 6-4.

The loss snapped the Tigers' five-match win streak, coming off a perfect record during their spring break trip to South Carolina, and is just their second loss of the 2008-2009 school year. Wittenberg moves to 9-2 on the season, while the Cavaliers moved to 5-4.

The Tigers have one more match before conference play heats up, Tuesday March 24 at Ohio Dominican. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m. The fight for the North Coast Athletic Conference crown will begin on April 4 at Wabash.
