Wittenberg Slips Past Ohio Wesleyan, 5-4, In Season And Conference Opener

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tiger men's tennis team opened the 2007-08 season with a close 5-4 win over Ohio Wesleyan, led by junior Brad Seymour (Chillicothe, Ohio/Chillicothe), who took out Ohio Wesleyan's top singles player Adrian Barker. Seymour won his match in straight sets by scores of 6-3, 6-0.

Following Seymour, Wittenberg won two more singles matches, on the success of freshman Robert Fisher (Gahanna, Ohio/Lincoln) in the second spot and freshmanCraig Lods (Chillicothe, Ohio/Chillicothe) coming through in the sixth spot.

The three wins meant three losses in the singles matches, placing Wittenberg and Ohio Wesleyan in a tie heading into the doubles portion of the evening, which consisted of three matches. Seymour and senior Ryan Snyder (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison) teamed up to put away Ohio Wesleyan in the first match. In the next match, Fisher and sophomore Rob Lehner (Gahanna, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) defeated their opponents 8-3.

With the two doubles wins, Wittenberg statistically clinched the evening, though Ohio Wesleyan did manage to take the last doubles match. The win gets the Tigers off to a 1-0 start both overall and in the conference.
