The Wittenberg men's and women's tennis teams are off and running already in the 2004-05 school year. Both hosted an invitational tournament that featured several NCAA Division I teams and North Coast Athletic Conference rival Denison in a flighted format. And both teams defeated NAIA scholarship program Ohio Dominican in their dual match openers.

The women are led by senior Sarah Fassler (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula) and junior Kristyn Russell (Loveland, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame), the team's top singles players this fall in the absence of senior Emily Figel (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Homestead), who is studying in Europe. The trio, along with several other returning letterwinners, figure to comprise a solid a lineup in the spring.

On the men's side, things a little more jumbled, although the top two singles players, senior Shane Hutton (Charleston, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) and juniorMatt Treblas (Aurora, Ohio/Aurora) are back and ready to prove themselves in 2004-05. The team lost just one letterwinner from last year's team.

Both teams are back in action next weekend in the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region Tournament. The women will travel to DePauw for their competition, while the men are hosting the event for the first time. Wittenberg has hosted the women's tourney the last three years.
