Big Wins Over Visiting Hiram For Tigers

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg men's and women's swimming and diving teams won all but one event to sweep Hiram out of the HPER Center Natatorium by scores of 192-81 for the men and 199-77 for the women.

The men improved to 8-3 in their dual meet record, and the women advanced to 7-4.

Fresh off the second best 100 breaststroke time (1:08.42) in school history in Friday's meet at Denison, freshman Molly Gustafson (West Hartford, Conn./West Hartford) returned to the HPER Center and bested herself with a time of 1:07.70 on Saturday.

Gustafson also crept closer to the school record of 1:06.46, held by current junior teammate Megan Tassone (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline). Gustafson would go on to post another school-history top 10 performance in the 200 breaststroke on a time of 2:31.20, though she swam in exhibition.

In the women's diving slate, senior Megan Shubitowski (Columbus, Ohio/Watterson) picked up comfortable wins in the one-meter (203.18) and three-meter (189.35), while on the men's side junior Gus Appenbrink (Naperville, Ill./Neaqua Valley) also swept the one- (203.18) and three-meters (202.40).

Junior Mickey Murphy (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) picked up a win in the 400 IM (4:37.00), while senior Chris Culkin (Novi, Mich./Northville) was a two-time winner in the 500 free (4:55.01) and the 200 free (1:50.35), among many other first-place finishers and fine performances.

The Tigers schedule resumes next Saturday, Jan. 22, with a home meet versus Centre College, beginning at 1 p.m.
