Trio of Tigers tally hat tricks as Men's Lacrosse falls 17-15 at Kenyon in match spanning two days

GAMBIER — Three Tigers recorded hat tricks to lead the Wittenberg men's lacrosse team in a tight 17-15 loss at Kenyon in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Thursday. The game was partially played on Wednesday but was halted with 7:42 left in the second quarter due to severe weather with Kenyon leading 6-3 at the time.

The Game

  • Kenyon outscored Wittenberg 5-1 in the first quarter during play on Wednesday. The Owls scored the first five goals of the game, and Kody Gould got the Tigers on the board with a goal with 54 seconds left in the quarter.
  • Wittenberg opened the second quarter with back-to-back goals from Kyle Gould and Brown to cut the Owls' lead to 5-3. Kenyon answered with a goal before play was halted.
  • After play resumed on Thursday, the teams scored alternating goals as the Tigers cut the deficit to two, 8-6, going into halftime. Kody Gould and Matthews scored Wittenberg's first two goals in that span, and Boehmer found the back of the net with seven seconds left in the period.
  • Wittenberg scored the first two goals of the third quarter to tie the score at 8-8, as Matthews and Kyle Gould found the back of the net over the first five minutes of the period. The Owls outscored the Tigers 4-3 over the final 9:25 of the quarter, though, to take a 12-11 lead into the fourth. Kody Gould scored two of Wittenberg's three goals in that span with the other coming from Kyle Gould.
  • The Owls stretched their lead to 15-11 with three straight goals to start the fourth quarter before Matthews and Busby scored back-to-back goals to bring Wittenberg back within two with 5:37 remaining.
  • After a Kenyon goal, Pac and Kody Gould netted back-to-back scores as Wittenberg cut the deficit to one, 16-15, with 2:36 left. Kenyon scored an insurance goal with 1:29 remaining and held on for the victory.
  • Kenyon out-shot Wittenberg by a 56-45 margin and finished with a 35-22 edge in ground balls while winning 21 of 35 faceoffs.
