Tigers Open Conference Play at Oberlin

Oberlin, OH- Wittenberg hit the road to open up conference play against the yeomen of Oberlin College. The Tigers who put up nine goals had the challenge of competing against the 5-1 Yeomen. Despite leading the way in the fourth quarter, Wittenberg fell with a score of 12-9.

The Tigers first goal of the game came from Connor Matthews off of an assist from Nathan Brown to take the Red & White into the second quarter down 3-1. Wittenberg was able to get on the board first in the second quarter with back-to-back goals from Kody Gould. Gould's first goal of the quarter came from a man-up opportunity and assist from Mitchell Steinker while his second was assisted by Noah Mackin. The two from Gould tied Wittenberg with a 3-3 score. The Red and White then took a 4-3 lead with a goal from Holton Boehmer assisted by Ben Holland. Oberlin was able to take the lead back and head into halftime with a 8-4 score. Matthews and Boehmer were able to get on the board in the third quarter with Mackin assisting Boehmer to close the gap but the Yeomen came back to continue leading by four. Wittenberg was able to control the fourth quarter with three goals coming from Holland, Mackin (assisted by Mitchell Steinker) and Kody Gould (assisted by Holton Boehmer).

Wittenberg Leaders- The Tigers had five different individuals score, being led by Kody Gould with three goals and Noah Mackin with two assists. Mario Lorelli and Noah Gfell led in caused turnovers with two each. Max Schillig led in ground balls picking up nine on the day. In goal for Wittenberg was Brandon Shevins with 17 saves after facing 29 shots on goal.

NCAC Leaders- Wittenberg has four guys in the top ten for statistics in the NCAC. Ben Holland is tied at number five in the conference for goals with 16. Holland and Noah Mackin land in the top ten for assisted on the season with Holland leading the way at number six and Mackin at nine. The offensive duo continues to lead the NCAC in points with Holland at number four and Mackin at number ten. In face-off success, Luke Stanfield lands at number nine going 51-101. On the defensive end, Mario Lorelli lands at number three in the NCAC for caused turnovers with 18 on the season. (All statistics are based prior to today's match-up.
