Tigers Fall On The Road To Transylvania

Lexington, KY – The Wittenberg University men's lacrosse team hit the road to take on the Pioneers of Transylvania University on Saturday afternoon, falling in their final game before their spring break trip, 15-7. The Tigers picked up 22 ground balls while converting on 17 of 26 clear attempts on the afternoon.

Game Breakdown

The Tigers were forced to overcome an early 4-1 deficit after the first period of action concluded. Michael Carluccio tallied the first goal of the game for the Red and White, cutting into a 3-0 Transylvania lead. The Tigers were able to cut the Transy lead in half in the second period, starting with a Noah Moderwell goal from Cooper Harris. Carluccio found the back of the Pioneer net, logging his second unassisted goal of the game.  Wittenberg began to chip away at the Transylvania lead as the Pioneers maintained an 8-4 advantage at the half. Moderwell netted his second goal of the game bring the Tigers within four of the Transy lead before the first-half expired. Moderwell completed the hat-trick, scoring his third goal and Wittenberg's fifth of the game, coming off the Andrew Ellis assist with just over six minutes to go in the third quarter. Jerry Coyle tallied two goals in the second half as Wittenberg fell by a final of 15-7.

Who Stood Out

Leading the charge with six ground ball pick-ups was Anthony LeBarge and Jack Wolfe. LeBarge and Wolfe each tallied two caused turnovers on the day with Nick Medley adding two more to the Tiger defense's credit. Paxton Kreger made 11 saves against 26 shots on goal in a full 60 minutes between the pipes for the Red and White.
