Tigers Lose Overtime Thriller To Potsdam State

CLEARWATER, Fla. — The Wittenberg Tigers lost a heartbreaker to open their annual Spring Break trip to the Sunshine State, falling in overtime to Potsdam State, 6-5.

The loss dropped the Tigers to 2-2 on the young season. Wittenberg has three days of practice in the warm air before returning to competition against Moravian at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 12.

After taking a 3-2 lead into the halftime break on a goal by senior Ted Winders (Western Springs, Ill./Lyons Township) and two more from freshman Alex Previte (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman), Potsdam State struck for three straight goals early in the third quarter. The Tigers rallied, however, on back-to-back scores from junior Matt Lord (Pickerington, Ohio/North).

The two teams then played to a scoreless draw in the fourth quarter, leading to what turned out to be a brief overtime session. Potsdam State won the faceoff and moved upfield for the score less than one minute into the sudden-death period.

Sophomore Spencer Baker (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) played a fine game in goal for the Tigers.
