Wittenberg Stumbles Against Whittier

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The stars just seemed to be aligned against the Wittenberg Tigers on this cold, blustery, rainy "spring" evening. The Tigers just couldn't get the offense going, couldn't make smooth transitions upfield and couldn't find the key defensive stops in a 13-5 loss to visiting Whittier.

The Tigers were outshot 49-17 in the game, in part thanks to far too many Wittenberg turnovers, especially in the second half. The Poets' goaltender was forced into just two saves in the game, compared to 11 for Wittenberg junior Kevin Adams.

After falling behind 4-1 to start the game, Wittenberg rallied to within 5-3 at the end of the first quarter. Whittier shut the Tigers out in the second and third quarters, however, eventually pushing eight unanswered goals into the Wittenberg net to stretch the lead out to 12-3. The Tigers managed two goals in the fourth quarter and Whittier capped things at the 2:04 mark.

Wittenberg's goals were scored by sophomore Sammy Hong, junior Cory Windle, sophomore Brandon Schwind, sophomore Adam Morrison and sophomore Jay Shimko. No assists were credited to the Tigers in the game.
