Wittenberg Falls To Washington & Jefferson

WASHINGTON, Pa. - The winning formula once again escaped the Wittenberg Tigers on Saturday, this time in a game against the homestanding Washington & Jefferson Presidents. The Tigers dropped an 18-13 decision to W&J.

The game was tied at three after the first quarter, but Wittenberg lost the battle in the second and third frames and by then had lost the war. Washington & Jefferson scored seven goals in the second and six more in the third to take an insurmountable 16-8 lead into the final stanza. Wittenberg could get no closer than five goals.

Sophomore Sammy Hong led the offense with four goals and one assist, while sophomore Adam Morrison added three scores and two assists. Sophomore Jay Shimko and junior Cory Windle finished with two goals each and sophomore Cory Griffiths and junior Bryan Arnold chipped in a goal apiece. Rounding things out, senior Trevor Carlson had an assist.

Defensively, the Tigers struggled as junior Kevin Adams had seven first-half saves but had to leave the game at halftime due to a concussion. Sophomore Pat Garlock made four saves in the second half.

Wittenberg dropped to 1-8 on the season, while Washington & Jefferson improved to 1-8. The Tigers are back in action at home Wednesday against nationally ranked Ohio Wesleyan.
