Tigers Shoot Up Leaderboard on Day 2 of NCAA Division III Championships
VICTOR, NY - Wittenberg Men's Golf charged up the leaderboard on Day 2 of the 2025 NCAA Division III Championships, carding a deceptively impressive team round of 14-over-par 302 to make the cut.
The Tigers finished the second round with a total score of 31-over-par 607 to finish in a four-way tie for 13th place. Only the top 18 teams in the 43-team field made the cut.
Playing in cold conditions for a second straight day - this time with plenty of rain falling as well - the Tigers stand 12 strokes off the pace set by Illinois Wesleyan through two rounds. North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) runner-up Kenyon is in a tie for second place with Huntingdon at 21-over-par, just two strokes behind Illinois Wesleyan.
Wittenberg was among 22 teams that played the Cobblestone Creek Country Club course on Day 2, while the other half of the field was navigating Midvale Country Club. Both courses were playing to par-72, while Midvale yielding a lower scoring average both days while measuring 6.558 yards. Teams playing Cobblestone Creek on Day 2 finished with a scoring average of 80.41, compared to 78.22 at Midvale.
The low round of Day 2 for the Tigers was turned in by senior Jake Yarbrough (Dublin, OH / Jerome), who bounced back from three bogeys over his first 10 holes to close strong, carding birdies on 2, 5, and 8 to finish at one-over-par 73. Yarbrough moved up 51 spots in the tournament to stand 24th with a two-day total of 149 (5-over-par).
The freshman tandem of Mitch Bolte (Newark, OH / Newark) and Mikey Schutte (Cincinnati, OH / Elder) posted solid scores of 74 and 77, respectively, in the second round. Bolte's two-day total of 147 puts him 12th on a tightly bunched individual leaderboard, with Schutte at 63rd with a 153.
Rounding out the Tigers' scorers on Day 2 was senior Joshua Wright (Akron, OH / Archbishop Hoban). He bounced back from a disappointing opening round to card a 78 on Day 2. Junior Mark Sulek (Delaware, OH / Hayes) rounded things out for the Tigers with a second-round 82. Sulek is in 165th place and Wright is in 201st place heading into the final two rounds of the competition.
There is rain in the forecast again for Round 3 on Thursday, so for a second straight day the tournament will tee off with split tees, starting at 9 a.m. Wittenberg players will all tee off on No. 10 at Midvale, starting at 10:39 a.m.
