
GREENSBORO, NC – The Wittenberg men's golf team, ranked 14th nationally, closed out the fall portion of the 2024-25 season with a 13th-place finish at the O'Briant Jensen Memorial Tournament in North Carolina, an annual showcase of NCAA Division III talent.
Competing against a tough field of teams, the challenging two-day event took place on Oct. 28-29 and was hosted by Guilford College at the beautifully designed The Cardinal by Pete Dye, a par-71, 6,778-yard course. Of the 21 teams in the tournament, seven are ranked in the most recent Bushnell/Golfweek Division III Coaches Poll and four others were among the "others receiving votes."
Wittenberg tied Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for 13th in the 21-team field with a team total of 628 for the 36 holes of play. Methodist College, ranked No. 1 in the Bushnell/Golfweek DIII Coaches Poll for the 10th consecutive time, carded a two-day total of 584 to finish first. The Monarchs are the defending national champion and received nine first-place votes and 295 points in the October 11th rankings.
Sewanee University, ranked No. 21, was second in the tournament with 589, Guilford College and Huntingdon College (ranked No. 7) tied for third at 599, followed by Averett University at 601, Carnegie Mellon University (ranked No. 3) at 612, Lynchburg College (ranked No. 10) had a 615, Hampden-Sydney College (ranked No. 17) at 616, Greensboro College at 622, Gettysburg College at 625, Pfieffer University at 626, Denison University at 627, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Wittenberg at 628. Rounding things out were Otterbein at 629 to round out the top 15 of 21 teams. Averett, Gettysburg, Greensboro, and Guilford all received votes to be among the top 25 national rankings as well.
Wittenberg carded a team total 314 each day. They were led by freshman Mitch Bolte (Newark, OH / Newark) who rounded out the top 30 in a tie for 30th place with scores of 76 and 78 for a 154 total (+12 ). Senior Joshua Wright (Wadsworth, OH / Akron Hoban) finished in a tie for 37th place by carding a 77 and 78 for a 156 score (+14), Ryan Miller (Dublin, OH / Jerome) finished in a four-way tie for 62nd place with scores of 83 and 77 for a 160 (+18), Mark Sulek (Delaware, OH / Hayes) was in a six-way tie for 66th with an 80 and 81 for 161 total (+19), and Jake Yarbrough (Dublin, OH /Jerome), finished in a five-way tie for 72nd with an 81 and 81 for 162 total (+20).
