
SEWICKLEY, PA - Wittenberg Men's Golf hit the road for some home cooking, and the Tigers raced to the top of the leaderboard at the Win Palmer Cup at Allegheny Country Club in Sewickley, Pennsylvania. It was Wittenberg's third win of the 2024-25 season, but the first for the Tigers since leading the way at the Jeff Roope Invitational at Springfield Country Club on October 21.
The Tigers finished the two rounds of the Win Palmer Cup with a total of 587 strokes to end up five strokes clear of North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) rival DePauw. Wittenberg posted a strong Round 1 score of 287 and then held on for the win in extremely challenging weather conditions on the tournament's second day. The Tigers carded a total of 300 - 20 over par - as the second round was played in 35-40 mile-per-hour wind gusts and temperatures in the 40s.
DePauw finished both rounds in second place with scores of 290 and 302. Allegheny placed third with a two-day total of 609.
DePauw's Manuel Loring-Campos won the event individually as he was the low man on Day 2 with a one-over-par 71, matching his score from the opening round. Wittenberg freshman Mikey Schutte (Cincinnati, OH / Elder), playing with the Tigers' B team in the event, carded rounds of 72 and 74 to finish four strokes off the lead with a 146. He was joined in the runner-up spot by senior Jake Yarbrough (Dublin, OH / Jerome), who went for 70 and 76 in the two rounds.
Mark Sulek (Delaware, OH / Hayes) was right behind in a tie for fourth place at 147. Rounding out the Tigers playing with the winning team were freshman Mitchell Bolte (Newark, OH / Newark) in ninth place with a 150, Caleb Domitrovich (McDonald, OH / McDonald) in 14th with a 151, Joshua Wright (Wadsworth, OH / Akron Hoban) in 20th with a 153, and Ryan Miller (Dublin, OH / Jerome) in 30th with a 155.
Powered by Schutte's second-place finish, Wittenberg's B Team finished fifth in the 11-team field. Griffin Turner (Enon, OH / Greenon) placed 34th with a score of 156, Austin Georger (Appleton, WI / Appleton West ) and Bradley Hinkel (Springboro, OH / Springboro) finished in a tie for 45th with matching scores of 158, David Walterhouse (Statham, GA / Bethlehem Christian Academy) in 57th with a 161, and Owen Williams (Plymouth, MI / Detroit Catholic Central) in 68th with a 170.
Finally, Alex Rath (Dublin, OH / Scioto) played as an individual in the event, and he placed 48th with a 159.
