SAVANNAH, Ga. — The No. 15 Wittenberg men's golf team placed 10th of 19 teams in a loaded field at the Savannah Invitational and 11th in the Port City Classic after closing play in the three-round events on Tuesday.

The Basics

  • Venue: Savannah Invitational - The Club at Savannah Harbor - Savannah, Ga., Par 72, Yardage: 6,851; Port City Classic - Savannah Country Club - Savannah, Ga., Par 71, Yardage: 6,715
  • The Savannah Invitational featured 15 of the top 25 teams in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek NCAA Division III Coaches Poll, which was released March 1. Joining No. 15 Wittenberg are No. 1 Methodist, No. 2 Emory, No. 3 Oglethorpe, No. 5 Lynchburg, No. 6 Carnegie Mellon, No. 10 Washington & Lee, No. 12 Sewanee, No. 16 Averett, No. 18 Christopher Newport, No. 20 Huntingdon, No. 21 Guilford, No. 22 RPI, No. 24 Greensboro and No. 25 Kenyon.
  • Wittenberg's B Team competed at the Port City Classic, which followed the same 36-hole format as the Savannah Invitational.

Savannah Invitational

  • Wittenberg shot a 10-over-par 290-291-293—874 to place 10th of 19 teams. The Tigers placed ahead of five ranked teams, including No. 21 Guilford (14th place), No. 18 Christopher Newport (15th), No. 16 Averett (16th), No. 22 RPI (18th) and No. 24 Greensboro (19th). The Tigers finished just two shots behind a tie for eighth place between No. 5 Lynchburg and No. 25 Kenyon.
  • No. 1 Methodist won the team title with a 23-under-par 841. No. 2 Emory was second with an 844, and No. 10 Washington & Lee was third with an 847.
  • Huntingdon's Zackery Coker won individual medalist honors with an 11-under-par 205, finishing one stroke better than a three-way tie for second at 10-under-par.
  • Senior J.F. Aber (Pittsburgh, Pa./Sewickley Academy) led the Tigers with a fifth-place finish in the 95-man field. He shot a 9-under-par 72-66-69—207. He was named to the All-Tournament Team.
  • Senior Nicklaus Pidgeon (Homeworth, Ohio/West Branch) finished tied for 54th with a 7-over-par 74-77-72—223.
  • Junior Jake Yarbrough (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) finished tied for 61st with an 8-over-par 69-75-80—224.
  • Sophomore Mark Sulek (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes) finished tied for 72nd with a 12-over-par 75-76-77—228.
  • Junior Joshua Wright (Wadsworth, Ohio/Akron Hoban) finished tied for 80th with a 14-over-par 81-74-75—230.

Port City Classic

  • Wittenberg's B team shot a 68-over-par 309-307-304—920 to place 11th of 17 teams. The field consisted of some A, B and C teams.
  • Maryville won the team title with a 17-over-par 869. Roanoke and Wabash tied for second with with an 884.
  • Maryville's Caden Gambini won individual medalist honors with a 1-under-par 212, finishing three strokes ahead of second place.
  • Freshman Owen Cotterman (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) led the Tigers with a 10-over-par 74-71-78—223, placing in a tie for 20th in the 94-man field.
  • Junior Austin Georger (Appleton, Wis./West) tied for 51st with a 19-over-par 80-80-72—232. Junior Ryan Miller (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) also tied for 51st with a 19-over-par 79-78-75—232.
  • Senior Grant Klepitsch (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) tied for 56th with a 21-over-par 76-78-80—234.
  • Freshman Owen Williams (Plymouth, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) tied for 67th with a 26-over-par 80-83-76—239.
  • Freshman Caleb Domitrovich (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) tied for 75th with a 30-over-par 84-80-79—243.
  • Sophomore David Walterhouse (Statham, Ga./Bethlehem Christian Academy) tied for 78th with a 31-over-par 82-80-82—244.
