Tigers Sit In Top 10 After Day One At NCAA Championships

Nicholasville, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger Men's Golf team began the 2023 NCAA Division III Championship journey on Tuesday, battling the elements and weather delays at Keene Trace Golf Club.

Wittenberg played their opening round on the Keene Run course, a par 72 6700-yard course. The Tigers compiled a day-one score of 292, through 18-holes.

Three of five Tiger's cracked the top 50 to get the championship week started. Matthew Mattioli set the pace for the Tigers with an opening round of 72 (E). Mattioli carded four birdies on the day with three falling on the front nine and adding one birdie on the back nine.

Evan DiSanto finished one over par with an opening round 73, at is final NCAA DIII Championships. DiSanto put down three birdies on the card, coming in at even par through the front nine. He would tally two birdies on the back nine with three bogeys.

Nicklaus Pidgeon added a T-35 finish on day one, joining DiSanto at (+1) with a 73. Pidgeon tallied two birdies through the front nine, coming in at one under par, before finishing the back nine at two over.

J.F. Aber and Will Birkholz each closed out their opening round with a T-51 finish, posting an opening round 74.
