Wittenberg Men's Golf Claims 12th NCAC Title

Westfield Center, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger Men's Golf team claimed their 12th North Coast Athletic Conference Championship in program history. The Tigers were at the front of the pack for all three days of the 54-hole event, finishing with a final team score of 864 (290-291-283). The best three-round score put together by a Wittenberg group.  As NCAC champions, Wittenberg has earned the league's automatic bid into the 2023 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships, which will be contested at Keene Trace in Nicholasville, Kentucky, May 16-19.

Matthew Mattioli became the 10th Wittenberg Tiger to earn the Bob Nye Award, as the NCAC Medalist of the event. Mattioli booked a 54-hole score of 212 which included rounds of 73-71-68.

Wittenberg filled up the leaderboard, claiming all but one of the top five spots. Evan DiSanto was right on the heels of Mattioli, earning a second-place finish with a three-day score of 214 with rounds of 71-73-70.

J.F. Aber was named the Dick Gordin Award winner, becoming the seventh Wittenberg Tiger earn the achievement for the NCAC Player of the Year. Aber rounded out the Wittenberg 1-2-3 finish, closing out his championships with a 54-hole score of 219 including rounds of 70-73-76.

Nicklaus Pidgeon earned a T5 finish, with a 54-hole score of 222 and carding rounds of 76-74-72.

With their top five finish, Mattioli, DiSanto, Aber and Pidgeon would each earn First Team All-NCAC Honors. This is the second consecutive year Aber and Mattioli have earned first team status. DiSanto has made the All-NCAC list three times now in his collegiate career, twice on the second team in 2021 and 2022, finally breaking through to the first team in his senior season.

In his first full-season back to lead his alma-mater, Head Coach David Wetterich and his staff were named Men's Coaching Staff of the Year.
