Men's Golf Closes Out Day One Of NCAA Championships In Sixths Position

Howey-in-the-Hills, FL – The Wittenberg Tiger Men's Golf Team hit the links for day one of the NCAA Division III Championships, playing the El Campeon course from Mission Inn & Resort from the Sunshine State. The Tigers carded a  298 (+10), finishing in sixth position amongst the field of 43 teams to start the four-day competition. Carnegie Mellon currently leads the pack sitting at even par, heading into the second day.

The Wittenberg Golf program has good memories at the Mission Inn Resort & Club, seeing that this is where the Tigers claimed their 2017 DIII National Championship and the first in program history.

"This year's National Championship is pretty special for me as it is my first as a head coach and we return to the site where my team won the National Championship in 2017," Head Coach Colin Laszlo said. "I've had a great group of guys this year who have worked so hard to earn a spot into this event and feel like we've done a great job to prep for this upcoming challenge. No matter what happens our focus this week is to enjoy the moment and have fun!"

JF Aber currently sit at two under par at T2, posting a 70, on the par 72, 6700-yard course. Aber tallied four birdies through his first nine holes, starting on the back nine, adding one more birdie on the par-four ninth to close out his round at two-under.

Evan DiSanto closed out the first round in a T13 position amongst 221 competitors, finishing the day with a 73 (+1). DiSanto carded three birdies, shaving two strokes on holes 14 and 15. DiSanto kept the momentum rolling after a string of pars closed out the back nine, with a first hole birdie to start the front.

The final three Tigers carded rounds of 77 (+5) and 78 (+6). William McDavid sits at T62 with a pair of birdies in round one, shooting a 77. Matthew Mattioli and Will Birkholz sit at T75.
