Springfield, Ohio — Wittenberg University men's golf standouts Jordan Millice, class of 2012 from Cable, Ohio, and Craig Osterbrock, class of 2013 from Wilmington, Ohio, have capped their phenomenal 2011-12 season with recognition from Cleveland Golf/Srixon and the Golf Coaches Association of America as NCAA Division III All-America Scholars.
Millice and Osterbrock are among just 26 NCAA Division III student-athletes to earn All-America Scholar honors for 2012. To be nominated, a player must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in at least 70 percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, maintain a stroke average of 79.0 or lower and maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.2.
The award rounds out a stellar collegiate career for Millice, who earned the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Elite 88 Award in both 2010 and 2011. The award is given to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average participating at the finals site for each of the association's 88 championships each year (the award is now known as the Elite 89 after the NCAA added Division III Men's Volleyball as a championship sport prior to the 2011-12 school year).
Millice, who graduated with honors from Wittenberg with a degree in business in May 2012, also earned first-team Capital One Academic All-District IV honors in 2011 and 2012 and third-team Capital One Academic All-America honors in 2011 and second-team Capital One Academic All-America honors in 2012 from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He was a member of three North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) championship teams and played in three NCAA Division III Championship tournaments, helping the Tigers to a pair of top-10 national finishes. Millice, who has shot the second-lowest round (68) in program history twice in his career, posted two top-15 finishes in the 2011-12 season, and he checked in with a stroke average of 77.1, nearly one stroke better than a year ago.
Millice, a three-year team captain, was one of four Tigers to earn All-NCAC honors in 2011 after finishing in a tie for ninth place in the NCAC Championship Series. He finished in the top 100 golfers out of more than 200 competitors at each of his three NCAA Division III Tournaments.
Away from the course, Millice was active in Wittenberg's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and served as president of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. In addition, he received the prestigious Woodrow Wilson Prize for Excellence in Business at the 2011 Honors Convocation to go along with membership in numerous academic honoraries.
Osterbrock, who is majoring in English and also working toward a minor in Spanish, is a two-time All-American for the Tigers who led the team in stroke average in 2009-10 and 2010-11 before finishing third in that category in 2011-12. He earned his third straight first-team All-Great Lakes Region and first-team All-NCAC awards following the 2011-12 season.
After winning the 2011 NCAC Championship Series and the Bob Nye Award as the conference championship medalist, Osterbrock repeated the feat in 2012 and also added the Dick Gordin Award as the NCAC Player of the Year. His names appears frequently in the program's record book, including a collegiate-best round of 67 in 2010 that is one stroke shy of the school record. He holds the program mark for two-day score after carding a 135 over two rounds of the Golfweek Fall Invitational in September 2010.
