Tigers Pick Up Second Straight Win Over Lords

Gambier, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger men's basketball team picked up their second win in as many days, taking down the Lords of Kenyon College 86-69. The Tigers jumped out to a commanding lead after the first half, taking a 44-28 advantage into the break. Wittenberg was once again led by Josh Tolliver logging 18 points on 6 of 10 shooting from the floor. With 10 Tigers making their way into the scoring column on the day, four would tally double figures for Wittenberg. Landon Martin provided 16 points for the Tiger offense, converting on 5 of 10 from the floor while knocking down 6 of 7 from the free-throw line. Ridge Young and Daniel Asher finished the day with 11 points and 13 points apiece for the Tigers. Asher knocked down 5 of 7 from the floor, pulling in five rebounds. Young added 13 points with six rebounds.

The Tigers were the first on the board, before Kenyon would later fight their way back to knot things up at 17-17 and 19-19 with just under eight and a half minutes in the half. From that point, Wittenberg put together a 13-point scoring run, kicked off with a pair of Tolliver free-throws. After Tolliver cut through the core of the Kenyon defense, extending the Tiger lead to 34-22 with just over five minutes in the half. Harrison Gough gave the Tigers their largest lead of the first half at 44-26, pulling down the offensive rebound and putting in the tip-in bucket. Levi Boettcher led the Tiger rebounding effort, reeling in 7 of his 9 rebounds in the first half.

Martin went off in the second half, scoring 12 of his 16 points. The Tigers knocked down 13 of 24 shots from the floor, converting on 12 of 13 from the charity stripe down the stretch. Wittenberg dominated nearly every statistical category with the Tiger bench outscoring the Lords reserves, 35-22. Wittenberg would also win the war inside 44-36.

NCAC LEADERS

The Tigers currently have two of the top three sharpshooters on their team in Young and Tolliver. Young leads the North Coast Athletic Conference in three-point shooting percentage at 52.1 with Tolliver holding down the third spot at 47.4. Tolliver and Young also land at third and fourth in the NCAC for field goal shooting percentage, with Martin working his way into the top five at 54.2. Martin sits on the cusp of the top five in scoring, averaging 16.1 points per game.

Wittenberg will return to action on Wednesday, February 9 traveling to DePauw to close out the series with the fellow Tigers of the NCAC. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM.
