No. 2 Tigers Dominate Denison From The Road

Granville, OH – The No. 2 Wittenberg men's basketball team traveled to Denison University on Wednesday evening, taking down the Big Red, 80-63, improving to 12-0 on the season. Wittenberg finished with four Tigers tallying double figures, led by Connor Seipel posting his ninth double-double of the season with 24 points and 11 rebounds. The Tiger's knocked down 49 percent from the floor, converting on 56 percent in the first half, taking a 45-28 lead into the break. Wittenberg finished with nine Tigers finding their way into the scoring column, as the bench provided 13 points.

Game Breakdown

The two sides battled back and forth through the early going, as the Tigers were forced to overcome an early Denison lead. As the first half saw the lead change seven times, Wittenberg saw a spark on the offensive end of the floor after Brice Hill knocked down a pull-up three-pointer, giving the Tigers a 20-19 advantage. Wittenberg continued the scoring run down the stretch, heading into the half, going on an 11-point scoring run over the final two minutes, extending their lead out to 17 points. The Tigers continued the offensive attack coming out of the break, knocking down 41 percent from beyond the arc. Coming out of the half, Jake Bertemes added seven points to his total while dishing out six assists on the night. James Johnson poured on 10 points in the second half, including a monstrous breakaway dunk, finishing the night with 16 total points, knocking down 6 of 14 from the floor, adding three rebounds and two assists. Landon Martin posted 10 points with five rebounds, as the final double-digit scoring Tiger.

NCAC Leaders

Through 12 games, Seipel leads the NCAC in both rebounds per game (11.2) and field goal percentage (69.2). Seipel currently averages just over 17 points per game, ranking him sixth amongst the NCAC's top scorers.

Wittenberg will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 11, traveling to Hiram College, taking on the Terriers in an NCAC showdown. Tip-off is set for 2:00 PM.
