Tigers Drop Oberlin on the Road, 63-43

OBERLIN, Ohio—Wittenberg took a 3-2 lead early in Saturday afternoon's NCAC matchup and never looked back. The Tiger's led by as many as 25 in their 63-43 victory over Oberlin College. Wittenberg did everything that they had to do on the road to get back on track in NCAC play. Eight Tigers were able to find their way into the scoring column, with Alex Fultz (Cincinnati, Ohio/Glen Este) Cody Phillippi (Xenia, Ohio/Xenia) both contributing 13 points apiece to the offensive efforts. With the victory Saturday afternoon, the Tigers moved to 13-8 on the season and 8-6 in conference play.

GAME BREAKDOWN

  • Wittenberg went on a 10-0 run  late in the first half, going up by 12, 32-20, before heading into the locker-room.
  • Chad Roy (Toledo, Ohio/Holland Springfield) netted eight of his 10 points on the day in the first half, pacing the offense from wire-to-wire.
  • The second-half was not much different for the visitors, as a Jaelin Williams (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) jumper with 14:46 remaining took the Tigers lead to 19, at 45-26.
  • Alex Fultz (Cincinnati, Ohio/Glen Este) barreled his way into the paint late in the second-half, putting Wittenberg up 55-38 with 5:12 remaining in regulation.
  • With 2:29 remaining, Phillippi banged home a three-pointer to put the Tigers up 25, 63-38.
  • As time expired, Wittenberg garnished a 20-point victory, 63-43.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Fultz had a strong showing in the victory, nailing three, three-pointers on his way to a 13 points, six rebound performance.
  • Shane Edwards (Perrsyburg, Ohio/Perrsyburg) dominated on the glass for the Tigers, pulling down ten boards to lead the Tigers for the second straight game.
  • For the first-time in 2015-16, Wittenberg went a perfect 100-percent from the charity stripe, knocking down all eight of their free-throw attempts.

KEY STATS

  • On the road, Wittenberg shot nearly 47-percent from the floor as a team as well as knocking down nine three-pointers for a 47.4-percentage.
  • The Tigers netted 23 field-goals on 12 assists in the victory, as Edwards and Williams led the offense with three apiece.
  • Wittenberg stayed true to form on the glass, outrebounding Oberlin 33-21 Saturday.

  • "The best way to bounce back is usually to guard and rebound and that's exactly what we did today. It was nice to make shots and get back on the right track," said Coach Brown.
