Tigers Dominate Road Match Against Yeowomen

Oberlin, OH- The Tigers were on the road tonight for their fourth NCAC match-up of the year in Oberlin, OH against the Yeowomen. Wittenberg was coming off of a split 1-1 homecoming weekend and looked to improve their conference record to 2-2. The Red & White have seen Oberlin in action a total of 70 times in program history, dominating with a record of 58-11-1. After tonight's 4-1 win the Tigers record stands at 8-6 overall.

Wittenberg was able to get things started in the first quarter, putting up two points on the board. Regan Mazzulli got through Yeowomen defense with an assist from Katie Webber for the first goal of the game and her seventh goal of the season. The Tigers were able to get one more up on the board in the first quarter with a goal from Caroline Ford, giving Wittenberg a 2-0 lead. The second quarter would be less eventful on the scoring side and Wittenberg headed into halftime with a 2-0 score.

Sofi Hess was able to pick up her second goal of the season off of a penalty corner and assist from Victoria Pipinich to advance the Tigers to 3-0 in the third quarter. Oberlin was able to get a point on the board in the fourth quarter but the Tigers were able to respond with a goal from Victoria Pipinich unassisted to end the game 4-1.

Splitting time in goal for the Tigers were freshmen Lyndsey Seagraves who picked up one save after facing two shots on goal and Caitlin Archdeacon.

The Red & White were able to draw 15 penalty corners with seven of those being in third quarter. Head Coach, Bronwen Gainsford said "it was a great team win! It was nice to have new people stepping up in different roles. We are looking to keep our momentum moving forward."

Wittenberg currently stands at number six in the conference with 2 wins and 2 losses in conference play and an 8-6 overall record.

NCAC Stats Leaders- Allison Ormsby is currently tied number two in the NCAC for goals on the season with nine and is second in the NCAC for points with 20 this season. Right behind Ormsby in tied in fifth is Regan Mazzulli with seven goals. Mazzulli is also in the top ten for points this season, tied at number four with 16. Katie Webber sits just outside the top ten in goals with four on the season and tied at number seven for points with 13. Caroline Ford is tied at number three in the conference for assists with four on the season. Behind Ford in assists is Webber tied at number six with three.

On the defensive side, Shannon Csordos is tied at number six in the NCAC for defensive saves while Emma Hurguy currently ranks number two in NCAC goalie leaders for saves with 76 and number three for saves per game averaging 5.85 and a .809 save percentage per game (number six for save percentage).

NCAA Stats Leaders- Emma Hurguy currently stands at number eleven in Division III for save percentage with the NCAC being represented in the top fifteen by five universities.

The Tigers will be back on the road for their next match-up against Depauw on October 19th at 4PM.
